WVLDA GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

 

2004-2005

 

1.  WVLDA WILL WORK TO ENCOURAGE ENHANCED SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES AND/OR ATTENTION ISSUES, THEIR FAMILIES, AND THEPROFESSIONALS WHO WORK WITH THEM.

 

a.  Promote channels of communication to the public including but not limited to the       

     following:

 


·         Website

·         Toll free phone line

·         Email

·         Newsletter

 

            b.   Create an email list or LISTSERV of members and support

 

c.   Respond to requests for information and assistance

 

d.   Host an Annual Conference and present Teacher of the Year and Student of the Year awards at the Conference.

 

e.   Plan and conduct regional mini workshops.

 

2.  WVLDA WILL WORK TO SUPPORT THE RECOGNITION AND PREVENTION OF

      THE PRECURSORS OF LEARNING DISABILITIES AND/OR ATTENTION ISSUES.

 

a.   Include a "healthy children" strand in the Annual Conference and/or regional mini 

      workshops.

 

b.   Include article(s) in Newsletters and/or website.

 

c.   Find and post links on our website related to "healthy children" initiatives.

 

d.   Actively search for a board member with ties to environmental issues (Siera Club,        WIC, WV  Highlands Conservancy, Birth to 3).

 

3.   WVLDA WILL WORK TO INCREASE ITS PRESENCE AND PARTICIPATION IN THE

       BROADER DISABILITY COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS IN THIS EFFORT.

           

a.   Send the WVLDA Newsletter to other organizations and educational entities including state school boards.

 

b.   Give our Website and Toll Free Phone Number to other organizations.

 

c.  Find and post links on our Website to other organizations.

                                               

d.   Invite representatives of other organizations to attend and speak at our meetings and/or

      regional workshops.

 

e.   Invite the broader community to our programs, conferences and workshops.

 

f.  Write letters to Editors, and publish articles in local newspapers.

 

g.  Encourage WVLDA representatives as speakers to other conferences including but not      

     limited to:

 


 

·         WVRA (West Virginia Reading Association)

·         WVAEA (West Virginia Adult Education Association)

·         Literacy WV

·         WIC (Women's Infant  and Children)

·         WV Reading Symposium

·         CEC (Council for Exceptional Children

 

h.   Encourage WVLDA membership participation in other organizations' meetings, conferences, or related activities.

 

4.   WVLDA WILL PREPARE AND MAINTAIN AN ANNUAL BUDGET TO ENABLE

       IMPLEMENTATION OF ITS GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

 

            a.   Periodically review  funding sources.

 

            b.    Explore new funding resources.
