For Parents

Belonging to LDA can be enormously supportive to the parents of a learning disabled child. When parents first find out that something is wrong with their child, they may have intense feelings of guilt, worry, uncertainty, self-pity and anger. Along with these feelings there is a lack of knowledge as to what the problem really is. In the beginning, as the parents look for help, they may receive conflicting advice and become more confused and frustrated. Understandably, they develop anger towards the community, schools, professionals and themselves. Parents may even deny the problem or blame each other, raising the possibility of divorce. All too often, they are looking for easy answers. An effective chapter can help these parents accept, understand and cope with their problems and their special child.
