Some Warning Signs or Symptoms of a Learning Disability

 

                                                     Listening

                    Normal hearing, but difficulty understanding language or remembering directions.

                                                      Reading

                    Difficulty decoding words, comprehending what was read, slow or labored reading rate,

                    confusion with the direction of letters: b and d, p and q, and n and u.

 

                                                      Writing

                    Illegible or immature handwriting, reversals of letters and numbers, problems with spelling 

                    and written expression.                                                                   

                                                        Math

                    Difficulty with arithmetic functions, memorizing math facts, understanding basic or abstract 

                    concepts and word problems.

                                                   Organization

Forgets to bring home materials such as books or notes from teacher.  Loses items before 

returning to school.  Difficulty in estimating how much time is needed to complete tasks.  

Forgets to finish work.
